The practice of using sound therapeutically dates back at least 14,000 years. Findings from archaeomusicology and ethnomusicology reveal that today’s interest is rooted in a long-established tradition.

Nevertheless, the global interest in sound therapy has grown dramatically over the past decade. Techniques such as chanting, singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, overtone singing, and the didgeridoo are now widely incorporated in diverse therapeutic settings. Clinical research in fields such as cognitive neuroscience, biomagnetism, neuronal plasticity, psychology, and surgery demonstrates that music and sound can have a powerful impact on medical recovery. The benefits range from stress relief, lowering blood pressure, and improving motor function to enhancing hormone secretion, supporting muscular activity, reducing post-surgery stress, and even aiding bone marrow transplants. These findings highlight the profound effects of sound on human well-being.

We prefer the term sound therapy over sound healing to differentiate ourselves from the many other learning avenues available today. We believe that healing is a collaborative process between the client and the therapist, requiring active participation from the individual. A patient’s willingness to engage in their recovery journey is essential for meaningful transformation. Our approach to teaching sound therapy emphasizes acoustics through an academic and scientific lens, coupled with hands-on learning and mentorship, creating a dynamic pathway to mastering this art.

We also believe that the most effective learning comes through direct experience, a method rooted in ancient traditions such as monasteries, ashrams, mystery schools, and temples from the past to the present. Knowledge can come from books, seminars, retreats, and conferences; but wisdom comes from direct experience. To quote the esteemed Morihei Ueshiba, “Progress comes to those who train and train; reliance on secret techniques will get you nowhere.”
Learning, in our view, involves multiple dimensions, and the most straightforward path is through immersive experience, sharpening one’s skills and deepening wisdom.
